Mental Well-Being Impact Assessment (MWIA) is a way of identifying potential positive and negative impacts on the mental health and well-being of those directly and indireclty affected by projects and policies.
It is done by asking those involved in the project a series of questions and reviewing the research literature.
The Impact Assessment results in evidence-based recommendations, which will inform decision-makers how they can increase the benefits and reduce negative effects of a project.
A Mental Well-being Impact Assessment toolkit has been developed. Below is a link to the Health Impact Assessment Gateway where you can find out more about MWIA and download the toolkit . You can also find examples of mental wellbeing impact assessments that have been carried out across the country in the Reports section.
